Terms of Use
Contents
1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing or using Vegvisir (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
These Terms form a legal agreement between you and Olmo Technologies (the “Company”, “we”, “us” or “our”), a sole-trader business based in Norway.
2. Service description
Vegvisir is a travel guide to Norway for iPhone and iPad. It lets you:
- Read descriptions of places to visit across the country
- Read practical articles about travelling in Norway, and suggested routes
- Save places you are interested in and plan them into a day-by-day trip
- See what is near you on a map, with driving distances
- Ask questions about your trip in Ask a local, an optional AI feature
The App requires no account and works offline, apart from photographs the first time they are shown, Ask a local (the AI feature) and purchases, which need a connection.
Vegvisir is an editorial guidebook. It is not a booking service, not a navigation system, not a weather service and not a safety service. It does not sell tickets, reserve accommodation, provide turn-by-turn directions, or monitor conditions.
3. Safety disclaimer
Vegvisir does not provide safety advice, and you are responsible for your own safety.
Nothing in the App is a substitute for the official avalanche forecast at varsom.no and the weather forecast at yr.no. Check both before going into the mountains.
Norwegian nature is beautiful and it is genuinely dangerous. Weather in the mountains and on the coast can change from calm to severe within hours. Trails that are straightforward in July can be impassable in October. Winter adds avalanche risk, darkness, ice and short daylight. Every year rescue services are called out to visitors who were not prepared, and people die.
By using the App you accept that:
- You alone are responsible for assessing whether a trip, a hike, a road or an activity is safe for you, your equipment, your experience and the conditions on the day.
- The presence of a place in the App is not a statement that it is safe, open, accessible, or suitable for you. It is not a recommendation to attempt anything.
- Descriptions of difficulty, duration and season are general impressions written for orientation. They are not a route assessment and they do not account for current conditions.
- You will check current weather, road status, trail conditions and, in winter or in steep terrain, the avalanche forecast, from official sources before setting out.
- You will follow signage, closures, local guidance and the instructions of authorities, which always take precedence over anything the App says.
- If you are not experienced in Norwegian mountain or winter conditions, you will use a qualified local guide or stay within marked, low-risk terrain.
In an emergency in Norway, call 112 for police, 113 for ambulance and 110 for fire.
4. Accuracy of travel information
We research the content carefully and correct errors when we find them, but travel information ages and the world changes without telling us. The App is provided for general guidance only, and in particular:
- Driving times and distances are estimates calculated from map data. They do not account for traffic, roadworks, seasonal road closures, mountain passes shut in winter, ferry queues, ferry timetables or weather. Real journeys frequently take considerably longer.
- Seasons and opening periods are indicative. Whether a road, trail, lift, museum or restaurant is actually open on your date must be confirmed with the operator.
- Prices, timetables, operators and facilities change. The App deliberately avoids stating exact prices for this reason.
- Coordinates and map positions may be imprecise and must not be used for navigation in remote or difficult terrain. Carry a proper map and the means to use it.
- Practical information about rules, rights and customs, including the right to roam, is a plain-language summary and not legal advice.
Always verify time-critical and safety-critical details with the operator or the relevant authority before you rely on them.
5. Ask a local (AI feature)
Ask a local is an optional AI feature; it is an AI, not a person. When you use it, your question is sent through our server to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic), which generates the answer with its Claude model. Before your first question is sent, the App asks for your permission. What is sent is set out in Section 3 of the Privacy Policy.
Answers are generated by artificial intelligence and may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. They are not verified by us before you see them. Treat them as a starting point for your own research, never as fact, and never as safety, legal, medical or financial advice. The safety disclaimer in Section 3 applies to Ask a local in full.
Questions
Ask a local is used in questions:
- Every phone gets 5 free questions in total. They are not renewed.
- Vegvisir Pro includes 300 questions, except where Ask a local is not offered (see Availability below).
- Pro users can buy top-ups of 150 questions, as many times as they like.
- Questions do not expire.
- A question is counted when it is sent. If the Ask a local service fails and no answer is produced, the question is given back.
Your question balance is kept on our server, not in the App. Free questions are counted per phone. Paid questions are linked to your purchases through an anonymous purchase identifier; if you reinstall the App or move to a new phone, use Restore purchases in Settings and your unused paid questions move with your purchases. See Section 3 of the Privacy Policy for how this works.
Availability
Ask a local and the question top-up are not offered to App Store accounts in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao. In those regions, Vegvisir Pro is sold without the questions. To apply this, the App reads the country of your App Store account on your device, and our server refuses requests that our hosting provider, Cloudflare, reports as coming from those regions, based on the network address. The App does not send the App Store country to our server, and our server does not store the country it checks. See Section 3 of the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend Ask a local temporarily, for example if the AI provider is unavailable; questions are not counted while no answer is produced. If we decide to discontinue Ask a local permanently, we will announce it in the App at least 30 days in advance, and the questions you have paid for can be used until it closes. If you have unused paid questions when Ask a local closes, contact us and we will help you request a refund from Apple for your purchase through reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds are decided by Apple; Olmo Technologies cannot issue them through the App Store. Nothing in this section limits your rights under Norwegian or EEA consumer law.
Ask a local requires an internet connection; the rest of the App does not depend on it.
6. Purchases and billing
The guidebook in Vegvisir is free: every place, the map, the driving times, the routes and all the practical information, including the safety articles. Without a purchase you can also use the trip planner for trips of up to three days, placing the stops into the days yourself; the plan stays in the planner on your device. You also get 5 questions in Ask a local (Section 5).
Vegvisir Pro
Vegvisir Pro is a one-time purchase, and it does not expire. It gives you:
- Plan it for me: the App spreads the places you picked across the days of your trip, with driving times
- Saving trips, as many as you like, each with a day-by-day overview and a route map
- Trips of four days or more
- Downloading a trip with its photographs, so they show without a connection
- The Midnight sun colour theme
- 300 questions for Ask a local, except for App Store accounts in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, where Pro is sold without the questions (Section 5)
More questions (top-up)
If you have Pro, you can buy a top-up that adds 150 questions to your question balance. It can be bought as many times as you like, and the questions do not expire. The top-up is not offered in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao (Section 5).
Billing
All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store, not by us, and are charged to your Apple account when you confirm. The price is shown by the App Store before you buy. Neither purchase is a subscription: there is no free trial, nothing renews automatically, and there is nothing to cancel.
Restoring purchases
Vegvisir has no account. If you reinstall the App or move to a new iPhone or iPad with the same Apple ID, use Settings → Restore purchases. Pro is restored through your Apple ID, and your unused paid questions move with it.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Apple, which took the payment. Use reportaproblem.apple.com. Olmo Technologies cannot issue refunds through the App Store. If Apple refunds a top-up, its 150 questions are removed from your balance. If Apple refunds Pro, the Pro features are no longer available.
Price changes
We may change prices for future purchases. A price change does not affect anything you have already bought.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source code or the content dataset of the App
- Copy, republish, resell or redistribute the App’s written content, in whole or in substantial part, or use it to train a machine-learning model
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in breach of any law
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the App or its infrastructure
- Abuse Ask a local, attempt to bypass its question limits or rate limits, or use it to generate unlawful, harmful or abusive content
- Transmit malware or any harmful code through the App, or otherwise damage, disable or impair it
8. Intellectual property
The written guidebook in Vegvisir (the place descriptions, the practical articles, the route write-ups and the cultural background) is original work written by Olmo Technologies. It, together with the App’s design, artwork, icons and code, is the property of Olmo Technologies and is protected by Norwegian and international copyright law.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App on your personal devices for your personal, non-commercial use. That licence does not include any right to extract, scrape, republish or commercially exploit the content.
You retain ownership of what you create in the App, such as your trips and the questions you write in Ask a local. Using the App grants us no rights to it.
9. Third-party data and attribution
OpenStreetMap. Road distances and driving times in Vegvisir are derived from OpenStreetMap data: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). This attribution is also shown in the App under Settings. OpenStreetMap contributors are not responsible for how we have used the data, and inaccuracies in derived distances are ours, not theirs.
Wikimedia Commons. Place photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and are used under free licences, chiefly Creative Commons and public domain. Each photograph is credited in the App with its photographer and its licence.
Maps. Map display uses Apple Maps, subject to Apple’s own terms.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Norwegian law:
- The App and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that the content is accurate, current or complete.
- We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free, and both Ask a local and photograph downloads depend on services outside our control.
- Olmo Technologies shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App, including missed connections, wasted journeys, closed attractions, additional travel costs, or decisions taken on the basis of information in the App.
- Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us for the App in the three months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing limits mandatory rights you have under Norwegian or EEA consumer protection law.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you breach these Terms. On termination, your licence to use the App ceases immediately.
If we stop offering the App, the version already on your device keeps working with the content it contains. What happens to Ask a local and unused questions is set out in Section 5.
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. Vegvisir has no subscriptions, so there is nothing to cancel.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Norway. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Norwegian courts, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rights you may have under the law of your country of residence.
If you are a consumer in Norway, you can also complain to the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet) at www.forbrukertilsynet.no, which mediates in disputes between consumers and businesses. If mediation does not resolve the matter, the dispute can be brought before Forbrukerklageutvalget, the Norwegian consumer complaints board.
13. Changes to terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes in the App or by updating the “Last updated” date on this page. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
